Green Loan

Simple finance for a greener, more efficient home

What Is a Green Loan?

A green loan is a low-interest or interest-free loan that can help you pay for energy-efficient upgrades to your home.

Depending on your bank, you may be able to use a green loan for:

- Solar panels

- Solar batteries

- EV chargers

- Heat pumps

- Insulation and other energy-efficient upgrades

How Does It Work?

You can apply for a green loan through your bank, often as a top-up to your existing home loan.

The bank pays for the approved work, and you repay the loan over an agreed period.

Some NZ banks currently offer 0% or low-interest green loans, although the amount, interest rate and conditions vary between banks.

For solar and battery systems, some banks require the installer to be a SEANZ member.

In Simple Terms

You get the solar system now → your bank finances the cost → you repay the loan over time → reduce electricity bills.

Green loans can be a good option for homeowners who want to install solar without paying the full cost upfront.
